Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp

Nxabega OkavangoSafari Camp

An exciting and beautiful new CC Africa camp, Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp, has opened in Botswana's Okavango Delta. The world-renowned CC Africa styling team have again worked their magic, creating another private safari lodge bearing their stamp of understated sophistication. Luxury is gracefully and discreetly integrated into the primal pleasure of life on safari. Nxabega means "Place of the Giraffe" in the language of the "River Bushmen", the Bayei, who live in remote parts of the Okavango.

The Lodge

Nxabega is on the edge of the Delta in a 7000 hectare exclusive wildlife concession on the western border of Moremi Game Reserve. The camp houses a maximum of 18 guests, and nestles under a dense stand of African Ebony and Strangler Fig trees. Ten East African safari tents stand on raised wooden platforms with private verandahs. Nxabega is ideally located for a combined visit to Sandibe Safari Lodge, in the south-east of the Delta. The magnificent Okavango Delta (16 000 km˛) is a half-water, half-grass wetland wilderness of papyrus-edged channels and moves with the rhythms of the seasons. Near the end of the rainy season, a host of wildlife is drawn to the perennial, crystal-clear water. Sable, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, lion and those great wanderers, elephant, drift through the Kalahari woodlands. This Delta is one of the planet's most extraordinary wild places and Botswana's most valuable natural resource - and Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp is the new jewel in the crown.

Accommodation

Situated under dense stands of African Ebony and Strangler Fig, the stylish accommodation comprises just ten East African style safari tents on raised wooden platforms. Each tent has an en suite hot/cold shower and a private wooden verandah, shaded under a canvas canopy. A maximum of 18 guests may be accommodated at the camp. The lavish new camp is a mixture of Afro-chic and classic safari. There are ostrich egg chandeliers, cow hide rugs, leather headboards and porcupine quill lamp shades. Nxabega's ten classic Hemingway tents have been styled to match the calm elegance of the main lodge. Crisp white linen, soft hide headboards, parchment lampshades and dressing tables with leather boxes set the scene.

Cuisine

CC Africa's award-winning Pan-African cuisine combines wholesome African flavours with innovative flair and sophistication. From breakfast in bed, lamplit cocktails on a river island to walking picnics, the staff at Nxabega handle any special requests with delightful aplomb. Private bush dinners are an incomparable end to the day. Bush dinners are served in a clearing in the bush under a star-studded sky. Dining under the stars is an unforgettable African bush experience.

Activities

Nxabega has excellent game viewing opportunities all year round. The camp is a unique combination of the Okavango water wilderness experiences of poling in a mokoro (dugout canoe) and boating, with guided wilderness walks and big game watching on evening game drives. Lion and hyena are routinely seen in camp at night - birding is exceptional.
