About Chitabe Trails Camp

The significant difference between Chitabe Camp and Chitabe Trails is that, at Trails, the tented units are not raised, but located at ground level. Situated at the midst of the Okavango, the camp is surrounded by ebony- and sausage trees and boasts five tented unit that accommodated between six and seven guests at any given time. Each roomy unit has an en suite bathroom, as well as a supplementary outdoor shower. Tents are connected to the main areas (dining room, lounge, pub, pool) via walkways.

This Botswana camp is located in the south-easterly region of the Okavango Delta in a private concession that is bordered by the Moremi Game Reserve on the north and east.

The Camp

There are five accommodation units, including four that have twinned 4 ¾ configurations and one honeymoon unit with a king-size bed. Therefore this Botswana camp can accommodate a maximum of eight guests and their tour leader; or ten guests that form part of a private group.

Tents are located on the ground and have been fitted with en suite facilities and outdoor showers. There are fans in all the tents, as well as soap, shampoo and insect repellents.

In this instance, the camp’s communal areas comprise a pub, lounge and dining room that have been raised off the ground and are under canvas. There is also a pool.

The Safaris

Due to the region’s varied nature (a combination of open grasslands, dry forest and shallow waterways), the game viewing may include any of the following: buffalo, elephant, lion, hippo, leopard, aardwolf, wind dog, plains game and more.

Game Drive Safaris
We offer both day- and night game drives (at night we put on a spot light). Chitabe Camp has three ten-seater Land Rovers that each accommodate a maximum of seven guests to ensure that each passenger gets a window’ seat.

Walking Safaris
Walking safari’s are conducted from Camp by request only and normally leads to a hide that is situated within walking distance of Chitabe Camp.

Water Based Safaris
Depending on the water level at the time of your visit, you may be able to partake of a Mokoro safari along the waterways of the Okavango.

General

Electricity & Water
At Chitabe Camp tranquillity is the name of the game, which is why we choose to run our 220v generator exclusively when our guests are not at camp. As soon as guests return, the generator is put off. 12v battery power is supplied for lighting and fans in the rooms, but hairdryers etc, will not work here. Solar power is used to warm water for showers, while video batteries may be left to be charged by the generator while you are on a game drive (bring a spare battery and charging unit).
