Amboseli Lodge - Kenya

Amboseli Lodge

Offering spectacular views of the majesty of Mount Kilimanjaro, and set amongst lush tropical gardens and tranquil ponds, this lodge is a veritable oasis in the dramatically arid surroundings of the Amboseli National Park. The highest possible standards of service together with old world' bungalows and more modern but traditionally styled bedroom blocks at this main lodge provide a rustic ambience in the heartland of the nomadic Masai people.

Walking the lodge grounds guarantees close encounters with numerous species of birds amongst vervet monkeys and, occasionally, baboons. A game drive through the park invariably attracts the unexpected as you slowly travel through large herds of wildebeest and zebra, herds of elephant, buffalo, giraffe, gazelles, and antelopes. With its rising water table the park is also home to numerous water birds, including flamingo, and also the large waterfaring hippopotamus. Due to Amboseli's primarily open country the lions, leopards and cheetah are to be found in the dense thickets of natural cover that scatter across the park, whereas the famed rhino is found in the savanna, grasslands and swampy marshes.

The experience here is of the old world safari style. The large lounge and feature fire place provide the ideal ambience to unwind from a long safari day, enjoy an evening drink and share memorable experiences with fellow travellers from all around the world.

Kilimanjaro Safari Lodge is set with an open view over the Amboseli plains and the accommodation comprises of chalets set in large lawns and a small forest of acacia trees. Each of the rooms provide scenic views across the plains towards Mount Kilimanjaro and are set in lush gardens. The setting here is tranquil. The entrance lobby that has been newly constructed provides a breezy open format entrance decorated with large exotic plants.

The recently added shop provides for some specially selected artefacts and mementos to remind you of your times spent in this most unique of wilderness settings. Almost always there is plenty of game to be viewed across from the lodge grounds and in the evenings one may enjoy viewing elephants sauntering across the front of the lodge. Earlier in the afternoon the famous Amboseli duststorms in the shape of whirlwinds can be seen floating across the plains and into the skies.

Visiting this lodge provides for all the experiences to be had from visiting this internationally famous park, a long time favourite destination for Hollywood film makers after the famous shooting of the epic 1948 Paramount film, The Snows of Kilimanjaro'. The site on which the lodge was built is also the site of one of Ernest Hemingway's former camps when he visited and became enticed by the spectacles and experiences to be had here
