The Desert Homestead & Horse Trails - Sossusvlei Strip Namibia
Hello there. My name is Colin. I am the assistant manager at The Desert Homestead and I would like to introduce you to our lodge. I've been at the lodge since January of last year when we first started with the project, but we actually only opened on the 1st May 2001. We've come a long way since then, and I think we're one of the few places were guests really feel that friendly home away from home atmosphere.
If you are planning on visiting the magnificent red dunes of the Namib or the jewel-like rock pools of the Naukluft, you'll be hard pressed to find a more idyllic setting than our lodge. The view from your bedroom is of the distant Nubib mountains, and as the sun rises each morning, these mountains turn the most glorious shade of purple. Each of our rustic chalets has its own en-suite bathroom complete with farm-style enamel basins and copper taps. You'll notice our attention to detail and personal touches everywhere - even the loo paper.
It's quite difficult luring our guests out of bed in the morning, but the smell of my freshly brewed coffee usually does the trick. Our wonderful healthy breakfast with fresh gooseberries from our garden is really worth writing home about.
Our swimming pool is a popular attraction in the heat of summer, and offers a welcome respite from the extreme desert temperatures. This year in January, we had a few days where the thermometer registered in excess of 50°C.
If a tranquil afternoon in the pool doesn't tempt you, perhaps you'd be interested in our sundowner drive. It's a 4x4 track up a steep mountain road, and then a footpath the last little way to the most magnificent sundowner location in the south!
Alternatively, you may be interested in meandering across grassy plains or discovering ancient watercourses on the back of a beautifully groomed horse.
Whatever you preference, the Desert Homestead and Horse Trails has something for everyone.
I look forward to meeting you.
