Directions
Swaziland is well situated between the Kruger National Park and Zululand as well as being between Johannesburg and Maputo. The inclusion of a night or two in the Kingdom is essential in any itinerary and for a short getaway, it is easily reached from Durban or the PWV, with numerous entry points. Roads are generally in very good condition, however keep your eyes open for stray animals.
Hlane Royal National Park
from Mbabane / Manzini : travel straight through Manzini in the direction of Siteki for 40 minutes. Do not take any turnoffs from the main road, including the Siteki turnoff itself, which is ± 10 km’s before the Park.
from Durban : from Lavumisa / Golela border travel past Big Bend and shortly afterward turn right to Siteki. After ± 50 km’s turn left at T-junction and right at the next one. Carry on for 10 km’s to Hlane.
from Maputo : take the road to Lomahasha / Naamacha border and then travel down to Hlane past Simunye - no turnoffs.
from Kruger National Park : travel towards Komatipoort and then take the road to Mananga / Border Gate. Carry on towards Manzini through Mhlume and Tshaneni. At the Lomahasha / Manzini T-junction, turn right to Manzini and carry on past Simunye.
Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary
Note : As of December 1996, a new entrance to Mlilwane has opened further south near eSitjeni. Follow the signs carefully.
from Mbabane : take the road to Manzini. After passing the Ezulwini Valley and Little Usutu River at Lobamba, look for the turnoff on the right hand side and follow the signs.
from Manzini : take the road past Matsapha towards Mbabane. Some way after the Malkerns / Bhunya road, find the turn-off on the left and follow the signs.
Note : There is 24 hour access to both the rest camp and Sondzela House. After sunset, follow the signs carefully to the respective night entrances.
from Durban / Maputo / Kruger Park / Johannesburg : Follow road signs to either Mbabane and Manzini and then follow the above directions.
Mkhaya Game Reserve
from Mbabane / Manzini : travel straight through Manzini in the direction of Siteki. Just after the "Gobble and Gossip", 8 km’s out of Manzini, turn right and continue towards Big Bend for 44 km’s until you reach Mkhaya turn off on your left.
from Durban : travel from the Lavumisa / Golela border straight through Big Bend towards Manzini. Turnoff on your right ± 22 km’s after Big Bend.
from Maputo / Kruger Park : follow directions to Hlane. Carry on straight through Hlane. About 10 km’s after Hlane turn left to Siteki and then shortly afterwards right to Big Bend. After ± 50 km’s turn right towards Manzini and find Mkhaya after 20 km’s on the right.
from Johannesburg / Kruger Park (via Piggs Peak) : travel to Mbabane, then Manzini and follow the above directions.

Drivers license.
Visas for most countries are either not needed or are obtainable free at the borders. Check with our office for details.
Malaria precautions - only for trips to the lowveld in summer months.
Walking shoes, hat, warm clothes in winter and tick repellent.
