Surrounded by open grasslands, island sanctuaries and the papyrus-fringed channels, which make this part of Africa unique, Abu Camp is the perfect spot from which to explore the mysteries and magnificence of this ancient land. Abu Camp's atmosphere is that of the ultimate house party created each week for ten guests. A ratio of four staff to each guest ensures the best of attention and service. The tents, described as Bedouin influence meets the African bush, have fully zipped entrances, and roll down canvas on the windows. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom complete with copper or porcelain baths, shower and flush toilet. Every tent has a different style but all reflect the very high standard that defines Abu Camp. An expert safari chef conjures up magnificent meals, catering to all tastes and dietary requirements. Sundowners are served in the shade of these majestic and ancient trees with abundant cocktails on ice. The lounge tent is the perfect place to relax in soft and comfortable chairs. A well-stoked library is available to all, with a number of reference books and beautiful coffee table books on Africa displayed. Pictures of Abu and the elephant family abound. In fact elephants are reflected everywhere, from charming ornaments placed by the baths, to carved elephants walking down the centre of the table at dinner time. After breakfast and a morning game drive you will be transferred to Maun Airport. Here you will meet your light aircraft transfer to Victoria Falls Airport. On arrival in Victoria Falls you will be met and transferred by road to the Stanley and Livingstone Hotel for (3) nights on a full board basis.

For millions of years, a mighty curtain of water eroded away a series of gorges along what was to be named the Zambezi River. It was not until 1855 however, that the presence of this truly spectacular waterfall was made known to the world. Missionary and explorer extraordinaire, David Livingstone, had vowed to find a route to the East Coast of the African continent, having already endured months of hardship in travelling south east from Luanda to Sesheke. Some 50 miles along his journey in the company of 120 Makololo tribespeople, he encountered this most magnificent waterfall which he named after his Queen, Victoria. In the fourteen years that followed, Livingstone endured life-threatening hardships in the course of his exploration and he was at his lowest ebb in 1871 when he met famous English reporter, Henry Stanley. Stanley had been sent by J.G. Bennet of the New York Herald specifically to find Livingstone who had not been heard from for two years. Stanley greeted the explorer with the now famous words "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" The two struck up a friendship which was only ended when Stanley elected to return to England in 1872, having failed to persuade the intrepid missionary to accompany him. Dr David Livingstone died on 1 May 1873, aged 60. He had travelled some 50 000 kilometres in Africa, adding a considerable area to the known portion of the globe and in so doing, he became one of the legendary figures of Southern and Central Africa. The Stanley and Livingstone at Victoria Falls is named after two men whose pioneering spirit lives on in the region. On December 15 1999, The Stanley and Livingstone at Victoria Falls opened its doors to discerning guests seeking a tranquil and luxurious environment away from the hustle and bustle of Victoria Falls town. Ten spacious suites, each with individual patio and colour scheme, are furnished to the very highest standards to create an environment of unmatched restful elegance. Our luxurious bathrooms are equipped with a combination of old and new from the old cast iron bath tub to the modern power shower. Each bathroom offers a range of amenities to complement your bathing experience. The warm ambience of the main living room and reception area, are made of natural thatch and timbers and combine tastefully with traditional English furnishings and objets d'art. What better place to discuss the day's activities than in our elegant bar. Finely crafted hardwoods in combination with many paintings depicting David Livingstone's travels, provide a luxurious, relaxed atmosphere.
