4 day Zanzibar Slave Route Tour
This 4 day tour of Zanzibar explores the dark and sobering history of slavery that makes up so much of whatZanzibar was notorious for. This tour can esily be extended to include some time at one of the idyllic beach lodges or resorts along Zanzibar’s turquoise coatline.
Day 1 - Arrive Stowntown, Zanzibar
On arrival at the airport or harbour , you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Stone Town. Overnight at the hotel on Bed & Breakfast basis
Day 2 - Day tour of Stonetown with emphasis on slavery
After breakfast depart for a guided tour of Stone Town covering the Kelele square, Tip Tip House, Former slave Market site, Livingstone House, the old dhow harbor and the Old Arab Fort. Lunch at a local restaurant. 1500hrs, boat trip to Prison Island, the former prison for slaves and quarantine station for Zanzibar, is an absolute worthwhile experience. Here you will also experience giant tortoises in the wild. Return to the hotel for overnight.
Day 3 - Day tour to Mangapwani Village and other areas
After breakfast transfer to Mangapwani village via Maruhubi Palace ruins. Visit of the slave caves and chambers. Lunch at Mangapwani Serena Restaurant. The restaurant is located on the outskirts of Zanzibar stone town. The Serena Mangapwani Restaurant and Watersports Centre is a great destination for those looking for somewhere special. Visitors to Mangapwani are offered a fresh seafood barbeque cooked to perfection by Serena’s expert team of chefs. The atmosphere is informal and friendly and the restaurant comprises a series of traditional makuti bandas, all set into a lush hillside overlooking an idyllic beach. Guests can also enjoy fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, catamaran rides and other pleasant distractions at the well-equipped watersports centre. Late in the afternoon, drive back to stone town. Overnight at the hotel in Stone town.
Day 4 - Tour ends at Stonetown
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight back home after this exciting African Tour.
