5 Day Southern Circuit Safari

KEY B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner

Day 01

Today you board your flight in either Zanzibar OR Dar es Salaam and fly to the Selous Game Reserve. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Selous Safari Camp for (2) nights on a full board basis. Enjoy an afternoon boat safari on the majestic Rufiji River. LD

Located in the north-eastern sector of the Selous Game Reserve, The Selous Safari Camp is close to the grave of Frederick Selous, the naturalist, big game hunter and explorer, after whom the Reserve was named. Rainfall is more reliable here than in many other areas of Africa, and the large animals of the Selous have no need to migrate in the dry seasons. Elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, wild dog and antelope, among others, are all to be found here together with a spectacular variety of birds. Selous Safari Camp lies on the edge of Lake Nzerekera. This area is highly populated with game and viewing from one's tent is often spectacular. The camp consists of 12 tents mounted on wooden platforms all fronting onto Lake Nzerekera. 5 with double beds, 7 with twin. Solar lighting, fans, private bath room, private verandah. The camp also has a swimming pool. The dining room, lounge and bar are mounted on a high platform, giving spectacular views across the Lake. In the evening a small bonfire is lit on the lakeside for clients to sit around for their sundowner and to listen to and relate the excitements of the day. In the evenings a three course, silver service dinner is served and the delicious breakfasts feature lovely platters of fruits and freshly baked breads. Almost everyone comes here for the game and viewing from the four-wheel drive vehicles is excellent. In the afternoon, when it is hot, you may just lie around the pool. Boat trips in the aluminium boats will bring you as close as you dare to hippo and crocodile. However, at The Selous Safari Camp you need not necessarily leave your tent for a real African wildlife experience. Day 02

Today you will enjoy morning and afternoon safaris of the Selous Game Reserve. BLD

Day 03

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip where you will meet your flight to Ruaha National Park. On arrival you will be transferred to Jongomero Camp for (2) nights on a full board basis. Enjoy a boat safari on the Ruaha River. BLD

For anyone seeking a true African wilderness experience, a visit to Ruaha National Park is essential. Although the second largest in Tanzania, the reserve is perhaps the least well-known and yet to connoisseurs it is without doubt one of the most spectacular in Africa.
Covering a conservation area of 10,300 square kilometers in the south-west of the country, Ruaha sprawls within and along the Great Rift Valley, covering a unique transition zone where the Eastern and Southern species of both fauna and flora meet against a dramatic topographical backdrop. This is also one of the few Tanzanian parks where sightings of the rarer antelope, such as the sable, the roan and both lesser & greater kudu, are a probability rather than a possibility. The proliferation of plains game in the park also ensures that the larger predators - leopard and large prides of lion - are unusually active. The bird life, too, is unparalleled with some 450 species recorded.

In this magnificent setting is Jongomero Camp, a luxury safari camp set under shady acacia trees on the banks of the Jongomero Sand River in the remote south-western sector of Ruaha. Being the only Camp situated in this area of the Park ensures unmatched privacy. Accommodation at Jongomero comprises eight large and well-appointed tents under enormous thatched roofs that also encompass a spacious private veranda. The dining and living areas are both original and very comfortable offering a great vantage to take in the sights and sounds of the African bush that surrounds the Camp, as does the natural rock pool for those hot days. At Jongomero we aim to show you the full variety of scenery, flora, fauna, and the different wildlife they support that make Ruaha so diverse and interesting. From open plains to thick inhospitable bush, from the tranquil river scenes to great herds of buffaloes enveloped in clouds of dust as they make their way through the acacia woodlands. Our team of qualified guides will design your daily wildlife viewing program to both suit you, the changing seasons, and the movements of wildlife ensuring you the best possible experience whilst in Ruaha, by whatever means is most appropriate. Old Africa hands will tell you the best way to experience the African wild is on foot. The camp will oblige with walking safaris accompanied by a qualified guide. These are overnight expeditions on foot with a lightweight mobile camp. This option must be pre-booked.

Day 04

Today you will have the option of choosing two activities: game drives, boat safari or walking safari. All the activities are accompanied by an armed ranger.

Day 05

Today you will be taken to the airstrip where you will meet your flight back to either Dar es Salaam OR Zanzibar.
