About Granny Mouse Country House

Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Natal Midlands overlooking the Lions River, lies Granny Mouse Country House. The style of service here rekindles an older definition of host and guest. An unhurried lifestyle of the world of yesteryear situated on 52 acres on an outcrop overlooking natural bush and the rippling rapids of the river. This Country Hotel comprises of 16 cottages all under thatch and individually decorated in country style fabrics. Your welcome by Mike and Lorna Gourlay will be warm and genuine. Our food is characterised by a creative balance of innovation and flair - only the finest fresh ingredients are used offering you classic country cooking at its best complimented with sparkling silver and crystal glassware.

Accommodation

All under thatch, each guest room is individually decorated in country style fabrics with a bar fridge, remote TV, coffee making facilities, telephone and en suite bathrooms. The Butterfly suite offers a separate lounge and dining area; the popular Honeymoon suite a four poster bed; and the beautiful Bridal Cottage decorated in romantic blue and white hues. A unique feature at Granny Mouse is the award winning wine cellar which boasts a superb selection of ports, wines and champagnes for you to peruse before dining. The Mouse and Lion bar, with its vaulted ceiling, roaring log fires and friendly ambience it is the ideal setting for congenial chatter or “passing the port”.

The dramatic Caversham Room with its high thatch roof and large french doors open onto a patio and picturesque countryside, accommodates up to 120 guest for dinner/dance -an ideal setting for wedding receptions. Our professional staff will ensure your wedding day is exactly as you dreamed it would be.

Recreation

Swimming, croquet, volleyball, trout fishing, bird watching, country walks. Golf nearby and horse riding by arrangement. Day trips to nearby Game Reserves can be booked for a unique African safari experience, inclusive of a picnic lunch. Consider your options of outdoor pursuits - and in each case reflect that the pleasure is doubled by the beauty of your surroundings. If golf is your game, you’re in golfing country with several golf courses close at hand. Walks to our own waterfall provide a delight for the eye and camera. It is a bird watchers’ and fisherman’s delight - experts and amateurs will enjoy luring trout from the beautiful cascading Lions River. Before taking tea on the patio overlooking the valley, take a stroll through the beautiful gardens or have a game of croquet on the common next to the river.
