Location

The Kwetsani Camp is nestled amidst the Jao Concession on an expansive island where floodplains and the Okavango Delta stretch towards the horizon. This luxury camp is the ideal establishment from which to base your Okavango holiday, and its remote and tranquil location ensures that there will be plenty of wildlife within close proximity.

The Camp

This camp consists of five delightful “tree house” chalets, which are fully furnished and have an en suite bathroom, including an outdoor shower, flush toilet and basin. The tree top chalets are made of thatch, wood, glass and canvas, which ensure that they blend in with the surrounding savannah and the tree canopy of Mangosteen, Fig and Palm. Each tree hugging chalet has been fitted with French doors and a private verandah, from where guests can look out across the Delta and floodplains and view the mystical animal and bird life.

The entire camp is set on an elevated wooden broad walk from where guests can look out across the canopy. The lounge, pub area and dining room have a thatched roof which keeps the rooms cooler. As you sip your tea or enjoy a glass of wine you will spot Lechwe, wildebeest and other game such as lion, leopard, Wild dog, cheetah, and tsessebe. The camp has a dipping pool from where wildlife can also be viewed. The Kwetsani camp also offers a curio shop, a new honeymoon suite, a help yourself fridge, and an excellent bar.

The Safaris

Once you arrive on this Botswana safari  you will enjoy navigating the Delta by mokoro; these boats are made out of fibreglass and are always sailed by a guide. There is a plethora of zebra, giraffe and Sitatunga, hippopotamus, water hog and Kudu too. With a wealth of wild animals in this unfenced campsite, guests will be spoilt with constant captivating glimpses of game.

Endangered birds such as Wattled Crane and Pink Throated Long Claws are found in this district too. The scenery is magical and breathtaking, lush islands are waiting to be explored by safari guests. The camp has a generator for running the kitchen and main areas, but once guests return to camp after an outing, the generator is switched off so that tranquillity is restored to Kwetsani camp, as it is in the savannahs. Fans have been placed in each tent for your comfort, but hairdryers, mobile phones and other electronic devices will not work here. Solar panels heat the water for your showers and the camp offers a laundry service, but the locals do not wash underwear, due to traditional custom.

This camp has been dedicated to the wildlife and the preservation thereof. The owners have discontinued hunting, even though it is allowed in the reserve. Access to this remote area is restricted to aircraft; there is an airfield about 45 minutes away from the camp. From May to September it is flood season in the Okavango Delta, so access to the camp is restricted to boat from the Jao airstrip. Throughout the rest of the year, driving is possible to and from the Kwetsani camp. This camp site is unsuitable for small children, only children over the age of eight are accepted.
