Sanctuary Zebra Plains - Walking Safari Camp

Sanctuary Zebra Plains is a small, intimate tented safari camp that has just four luxury safari tents. It is located in Zambia’s South Luangwa Valley on the confluence of two rivers, the Chibembe and the Luangwa. It is from this remote and beautiful corner or Africa that guests have the opportunity of exploring on foot the wilds of Africa. Game is plentiful in the area and includes elephant, buffalo, crocodile, lion, giraffe, puku, leopard and much more. Bird life also abounds and the scenery is nothing short of breathtaking.

The tents at Zebra Plains are more than just comfortable, they proper beds complete with mosquito nets, ornate furniture and of course ensuite facilities with hot & cold running water. The main area of the camp is also tented and includes a pleasant dining space, small library and bar to complete this luxury tented camp. The walking safaris at Zebra Plains are only conducted during the months June, July, August & September each year, and after each walking safari season the entire camp is broken down and taking away leaving this African wilderness to what is was when the camp was erected at the beginning of the season.
The Walking Safaris at Zebra Plains
The walking safari is a wholistic experience. The camp’s experienced safari guide takes guests into the bush on twice daily walking safaris. One takes place in the early morning for 3 - 4 hours and the second again the in the late afternoon. Your daily walking excursions may take you up one of the rivers amid large trees & birds, or across to an island to look for game.

Of course the armed guide introduces guests to the obvious sights & sounds of the bush including plains game, hippo and crocodiles, but the real experience of a walking safari comes to life when other subtle signs, smells & sounds are both pointed out and interpreted. These can include everything from tracks, dung & bird calls to insects, medicinal use of plants and cultural beliefs. Part of the walking team is the novel experience of having tea or coffee made by the accompanying game scouts, who demonstrate to guests the dying skill of traditional fire making methods.
