Shumbalala Game Lodge

Shumbalala Lodge is located in the Thornybush Game Reserve on the mid western edge of the Kruger Park. Shumbalala offers safari goers an exclusive safari experience, that is conducted in open safari vehicles as well as on foot. The Thornybush Private Game Reserve is home to an array of African mammals, reptiles, birds and fish. The reserve is mostly flat - open savanna and being in the Kruger Park area, has warm - hot climate for most of the year. The game lodge has been graded by the star grading council with a five star rating, and the accommodation and elegant main areas give good reason for this grading. The Shumbalal Lodge can take only eight guests, thereby offering a truely unique safari experience.

All ensuite accommodation is of the highest level and is made up of four luxury suites and a presidential suite complete with private swimming pool, lounge and dining areas. The Shumbalala Lodge boasts a very decent underground wine cellar that offers a view of the river, bound to meet the approval of the any seasoned wine taster. The wine cellar can also be used for a private candlelit dinner for two. The four luxury suites have their own fireplaces, a romantic bathroom complete with in and outside showers. Each luxury suite also has its own viewing decks that have been thoughtfully positioned along the Monwana dry river creating a both beautiful and peaceful bush experience. The presidential suite has a dining room and its own lounge, and of course its own private pool.

The Safaris at Thornybush Game Reserve

Your day starts with the African dawn, duringwhich you will enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. The game drive safari departs at sunrise (or slightly before or after) and your safari guide will give informative and interesting commentry on the many different animals, plants and birds you will encounter during your safari. Tracks and other signs are also readily pointed out when encountered. After some time stop will be made for tea & coffee somewhere in the African bush, before continuing on your game drive safari returning to the game lodge in time for a sumptous breakfast.

After breakfast the opportunity exists to take a guided walk in the company of your safari guide and tracker, during which the smaller less noticeable aspects of the African bush are highlighted for you. The rest of the day is yours to decide, until lunch whihc is about 15h00, although does vary with the time of the year.

Sundowners on Safari in South Africa

After luch the afternoon-evening game drive safari begins and is only interrupted by a stop in the bush to watch the sunset whilst you sip on your favourite beverage. Oncethe sundowners have been had the eveningsafari becomes a night drive safari where with the help of a strong spotlight the many nocturnal animals are searched for. On returning to the lodge a gourmet 3 course dinner awaits and the rest of the African nights plays itself out around the campfire.
