Vehicles used on Overland Safaris

Nomad operates two types of vehicles - both have been modified to suit the different tour requirements and are scheduled for use based on the prevailing conditions at the time of a tour. One thing that sets Nomad apart is that our trucks are standardized in design and condition.

Overland Safari Vehicle

The trucks have individual seats, ample leg-room as well as overhead luggage space, all of which help in making for a comfortable trip through Africa. All the the trucks are lockable and each have a safe for money and important documents. A good first aid kit is present to aid in emergencies, and each truck has a radio as well as good reading material, board games and other recreational kit to add to the enjoyment.  All the trucks have big windows that can slide down as well as allow for a good view towards the front. Nomad was among the first to put freezers on all the vehicles to keep food fresh. The on board kitchen is equipped with the following:

  • Gas Stove
  • 150 - 250 L freezer
  • Cooking Grill
  • Food storage racks
  • 200L Water Tank
  • Cooler Boxes
  • Food preparation and washing up facilities

The vehicles used for some of the East African Safaris are Toyota Land Cruisers (or mini-vans). These safari vehicles are able to travel on very rough terrain and although are not ideal for long distances they are ideal for game viewing.
