The Dining Car and Observation Balcony on Rovos Rail

Dining Car Rovos Rail

The authentic dining cars that are drawn by the Classic and Edwardian trains, date back to pre 1940. The dining cars are characterized by ornate wooden pillars and arches, white table cloths, crystal glass and fine crockery and five star cuisine. Rovos Rail has a number of these cars in the fleet, somehaving been recovered from scrapyards and painstakingly restored to its former glory.

Balcony Rovos Rail

The Observation Cars present in each Rovos Rail journey are converted A-28 dining cars that were originally built to drawings from Mr W Day. After enlarging the rear windows and adding the open-air balconies, this car on Rovos Rail now offers the real 1920’s experience of railway travel.
