Tours & Safaris - Zambia
Known for its tropical climate, vast open plains, wilderness safaris, thundering waterfalls and rivers, and a mosaic of cultures and traditions, Zambia is a nation of contrasts with something to offer every traveller. Head to Lusaka, Zambia’s largest city and the country’s capital, to access three of nature’s best wildlife reserves: Lower Zambezi National Park, North and South Luangwa Valley, and Kafue National Park.
Still relatively underdeveloped, the Lower Zambezi National Park is a wilderness gem. Located in the south of the country on the Zambezi River, visitors experience riverine sights with game, especially large elephant herds, buffalo and waterbuck, wandering between vegetated channels in the river and along the river’s edge. The lush South Luangwa National Park is considered to be one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world. Animals concentrate around the Luangwa River and its oxbow lagoons in great numbers. The river flows through the park and supports 60 animal and 400 bird species. Tree spotters will appreciate the diversity in tree species and wildflowers, taking delight in the park’s magnificent baobab specimens and large ebony tree forests. Access to the North Luangwa National Park is limited to walking safaris through one of the few permitted safari operators.
Located in the centre of the country, the Kafue National Park is one of the largest parks in Africa. Named after the river that dissects it from north to south, the park is known for the Busanga Plains, which is an expanse of seasonally flooded grasslands that generate lush grazing for wildlife - like red lechwe, buffalo and roan antelope. Pelicans, egrets and storks gather in their thousands.
A visit to Zambia would not be complete without seeing one of the country’s thundering waterfalls. The Zambezi River’s famed Victoria Falls, in the south of the country near the city of Livingstone, is a not-to-be-missed stop. Witness one of the Natural Wonders of the World and join one of the great activities on offer - from helicopter and microlight tours of the falls to whitewater rafting and fishing trips.
