Location

Situated in the Okavango Delta and off the north-western tip of Chiefs Island in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve in Botswana, Little Mombo allows guests to infiltrate an untouched piece of Africa bursting with wildlife. Unlike many places where it takes time and patience to catch a glimpse of an untamed animal, visitors at this camp can start viewing game from the moment they walk out onto their private veranda. Often guests have spotted animals strolling past right underneath their raised tents. The camp is hidden under large trees and offers spectacular views over the floodplains of the Delta. This Botswana camp has become known as one of the best places on earth for wildlife viewing, largely thanks to the high concentration of game within this Botswana game reserve. Mombo was even rated as one of the top destinations of the ‘Ultimate Safari’ in the Conde Nast Traveler in 1999 and was named one of the best lodges in Southern Africa in Harpers and Queen in 2000. The major attraction at Little Mombo is the vast sightings of both plains game and predators, including big cats. Little Mombo’s rangers frequently report lion sightings, as well as a good amount of Leopard sightings.

Accommodation

Guests can choose from three luxury tents, each with two ¾ twin beds. Custom-made linen can have the two beds converted into a king size bed on request. The tents are equipped with a door at the entrance instead of a zip. All of the tents have en-suite bathrooms. Tents are also equipped with a flush toilet as well as an indoor and outdoor shower. Soaps, shampoos and insect repellents are supplied in each room, as well as fans. All of the tents have a veranda in the front and are situated on raised decks which overlook the surrounding plains.

Little Mombo offers a smaller, more intimate stay and only accommodates six, while the bigger Mombo camp can hold 18. The camp is raised almost 2m off the ground, which enables game to wander freely through the camps - but still remains safe for visitors. All tents are comfortably furnished, spacious and built in the same style. The dining room, pub and living area provide views over the open plain in front of the camp. This area can only be reached by aircraft.

The camp is situated deep within Moremi Game Reserve, beneath huge trees on the edge of a scenic floodplain. The communal area offers a dining room, lounge and pub all on raised decks under thatch. A separate reading room/library is available. Wooden walkways connect the rooms to the living area. A plunge pool, stocked curio shop and slide projector are also available. The Kgotla (boma) is ideal for al fresco dining under the stars.

The Safaris

Mombo Camp is completely focused on providing thrilling African safari game drives; therefore, no water activities are available. Game drive safaris are done on 10-seater open 4x4 Land Rovers, each accommodating a maximum of 7 guests and allow all guests an outside seat.

Game drives are done on Chiefs Island and surrounding areas and promises some of the best game viewing in Botswana. Private game drive safaris and walking safaris can also be arranged on request.
