Mozambique is a large country situated in southeast Africa, it has some of Southern Africa’s most pristine beaches on the eastern side and is bordered by 6 different countries to the west.  Mozambique is a popular beach destination with many different resorts and islands to choose from.  The rainy season falls within the summer months which are from October to March, and the dry season falls within the winter months from April to September.

Summer temperatures in Mozambique can get quite hot especially over the months of December to February, but the average summer temperatures range from 20° C to 32° C (68° F to 90° F). the winter months are slightly cooler but never too cold for a stroll on the beach, average temperatures during winter range from 15° C to 27° C (59° F to 80° F).  The majority of sunny days fall from May to November, however with pleasant temperatures year-round, Mozambique is the perfect beach holiday destination.

Mozambique Average Monthly Rainfall

The rainy season in Mozambique occurs in the summer months with an average rainfall of 800mm (31in) per year.  The majority of these rains fall during the months of December to March. Although Mozambique is a year-round destination, the dryer winter months are better for water activities and relaxing on the beaches.

Beaches and the best times to visit

The southern beach areas of Mozambique can be split into three distinct areas – the Ponta area in the south bordering South Africa, the Inhambane area located in the centre of southern Mozambique, and the Vilankulos area located in the north of southern Mozambique.

All three destinations have the same climate, beautiful white beaches and rolling sand dunes, in the Ponta area you will find more vegetation on the dunes, Inhambane has beautiful lagoons and Vilankulos has some wonderful diving spots on the Bazaruto Archipelago.  The best times to visit for snorkelling and scuba diving are between April and June, and September to November as the water is at it’s clearest over those periods.
