Arrive in Rwanda’s vibrant capital and settle into your hotel. Kigali is known for its safety, cleanliness, and welcoming spirit—offering the perfect starting point for your adventure. Overnight: Kigali Marriott Hotel
After breakfast, travel to Butare, Rwanda’s cultural capital, where you’ll visit the former royal King’s Palace and the National Ethnographic Museum. From there, journey south into the cool highlands of Nyungwe Forest National Park, an ancient rainforest teeming with life. Overnight at the One & Only Nyungwe House.
Chimps share 98.7% of our DNA and exhibit behaviors like tool use and social bonding. Rwanda’s wild chimps live only in Nyungwe and nearby Cyamudongo forest. While their populations are shrinking elsewhere in Africa, Rwanda’s careful habitat protection gives them a vital stronghold
Rise early for your chimpanzee trek—an unforgettable hike through dense jungle in search of vocal, fast-moving primates. Later, enjoy the thrilling canopy walk suspended above the forest floor, where birds and monkeys flit through the treetop. Overnight: One & Only Nyungwe House
Drive along the shores of Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s great lakes, to the laid-back resort town of Gisenyi (Rhubavu). With its palm-fringed beaches and charming colonial-era vibe, this is the perfect place to unwind before your next wild encounter. Overnight at the picturesque Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.
Travel north into the legendary highlands of Volcanoes National Park. With mist-covered volcanoes and thick forests, it’s the backdrop for one of Earth’s most iconic wildlife experiences: gorilla trekking. Overnight at The Bishop’s House.
Set off early into the forest with expert guides for your gorilla trek. The hike may be challenging, but the reward is profound—an hour spent with a mountain gorilla family, observing them in peaceful silence just a few feet away.
Fewer than 1,100 mountain gorillas remain in the wild, found only in the Virunga Massif and Bwindi Forest. Rwanda leads global efforts in gorilla conservation through tightly managed tourism, anti-poaching patrols, and local community engagement—making every visit meaningful.
After breakfast, drive east to Akagera National Park, a diverse landscape of savannas, lakes, and wetlands on the border with Tanzania. Enjoy your first game drive en route to the lodge—keep an eye out for giraffes, buffalo, and even lions. Overnight at the Ruzizi Tented Lodge.
Spend a full day exploring Akagera’s varied terrain with morning and afternoon game drives as we go in search of elephants, rhinos, leopards, hippos, and more. Cap off your day with a tranquil sunset boat safari on Lake Ihema. Overnight at the Ruzizi Tented Lodge.
Once decimated by war and poaching, Akagera’s wildlife has made a remarkable comeback. Thanks to African Parks and community-led conservation, lions and black rhinos have been successfully reintroduced, and tourism now funds much of the park’s protection.
Start the day with an early game drive, soaking in the last sights and sounds of the wild. After breakfast, return to Kigali for your international flight home.
