Okavango Delta to Johannesburg
Today you depart from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on your scheduled flight to Maun, Botswana, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. On arrival in Maun, you will board a light aircraft transfer that flies low over the Delta’s waterways and islands to Camp Xakanaxa, where you will spend the next three nights on a fully inclusive basis. Camp Xakanaxa overlooks the Khwai River, one of the main channels of the Okavango Delta, placing it in an ideal position for both land and water-based safari activities. Guests can enjoy open vehicle game drives, scenic boat excursions and traditional mokoro (dug-out canoe) trips through the Delta’s waterways.
The camp is an intimate and charming 12-tented luxury safari camp accommodating just 24 guests, offering a peaceful and exclusive safari atmosphere. Each spacious tent is raised on wooden decks, features an en-suite bathroom, and includes a private viewing deck overlooking the surrounding wilderness. The camp also offers a relaxing main lodge area with a lounge, dining space and viewing deck where guests can enjoy spectacular sunsets and frequent wildlife sightings along the river.
Spend the next two days exploring the spectacular wilderness surrounding Camp Xakanaxa in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve. This region of the Okavango Delta is a beautiful mosaic of lagoons, winding channels, palm-covered islands and wooded floodplains that attract an incredible concentration of wildlife throughout the year. Morning and afternoon game drives with experienced guides provide excellent opportunities to encounter iconic African species such as lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and large herds of antelope, while hippos and crocodiles are often seen in the Delta’s waterways. The area is also renowned for its birdlife, with hundreds of species including African fish eagles, kingfishers, herons and colourful bee-eaters. Depending on water levels, guests may also enjoy boat safaris or peaceful mokoro excursions through the channels, offering a unique perspective of the Delta’s ecosystems and the chance to observe wildlife and birdlife up close. Between activities, relax at camp and take in the tranquil surroundings while watching animals pass through the riverine landscape.
After breakfast and a final morning safari activity, you will be transferred to the nearby airstrip for your light aircraft flight back to Maun. Enjoy a scenic flight over the waterways and islands of the Okavango Delta before arriving in Maun, where you will connect with your onward flight to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, bringing your memorable Okavango Delta safari to an end.
