On arrival at Nairobi International Airport, you will be transferred by road to Wilson Airport, a short drive of approximately 20 to 30 minutes. From here, you will board your scheduled charter flight to Mugie Conservancy in the Laikipia region, a journey of around 1 to 1.5 hours. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to Governors Mugie House, where you will spend the next three nights on a fully inclusive basis.
Mugie Conservancy is a 50,000-acre private wildlife reserve known for its strong focus on conservation and community involvement, as well as its diverse landscapes of open plains, hills and waterholes. Governors Mugie House, the newest addition to the Governors Collection, is set on a hilltop with sweeping views across the Laikipia landscape. The lodge features just eight stone-and-thatch cottages, each beautifully designed with spacious interiors, luxurious four-poster beds and all the modern comforts needed for a relaxing stay. With its peaceful setting, personalised service and incredible views, Mugie House offers an intimate and exclusive safari experience from the very start of your journey.
Spend the next two days exploring the Mugie Conservancy, a private and wildlife-rich area in the Laikipia region known for its conservation efforts and diverse landscapes. This lesser-visited part of Kenya offers a more exclusive safari experience, with open plains, acacia woodlands and water sources that attract a wide range of wildlife. During your game drives and guided walks, you may encounter elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelope and predators such as lions and hyenas, along with a variety of birdlife.
In addition to traditional safari activities, Mugie Conservancy offers a range of unique experiences. Guests can enjoy canoeing on the dam, visit and learn about the anti-poaching unit, or even take part in tracking wildlife with the rangers, gaining insight into the important conservation work taking place in the area. For something different, there is also a private golf course set within the conservancy. If you prefer a more relaxed pace, you can spend time at the lodge enjoying the infinity pool overlooking a waterhole or unwind with a treatment at the on-site spa.
With its combination of wildlife, conservation and varied activities, Mugie Conservancy provides a well-rounded and engaging safari experience in a beautiful and peaceful setting.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Mugie airstrip for your scheduled charter flight to the Masai Mara National Reserve, a journey of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on routing. On arrival at Musiara Airstrip, you will be met by your guide and transferred by open safari vehicle to Governors Mara Camp, with the transfer taking around 20 to 30 minutes and often doubling as your first game drive in this iconic reserve.
The Masai Mara is one of Kenya’s most celebrated safari destinations, known for its vast open plains, rich wildlife and strong cultural heritage linked to the local Maasai communities. Governors Mara Camp is ideally located along the banks of the Mara River, offering access to some of the best game-viewing areas in the reserve.
As the first permanent luxury tented camp in Africa, Governors Mara Camp combines classic safari style with modern comfort. The camp features spacious en-suite safari tents set among the trees, each offering views over the savannah or the Mara River, where wildlife is often seen. The main lodge area provides a comfortable and relaxed space to unwind, with a dining area and bar deck overlooking the river. With its prime location and welcoming atmosphere, the camp offers an authentic and memorable Masai Mara safari experience.
Spend the next two days exploring the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations. The reserve is famous for the Great Migration, which takes place between July and October when vast herds of wildebeest and zebra move across the plains, often crossing the Mara River in dramatic scenes. Throughout the year, the Mara offers exceptional wildlife viewing, with healthy populations of lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo and a wide variety of plains game and birdlife.
Daily game drives with your experienced guide take you across the open savannah in search of these incredible animals, with each outing offering something new. For a different perspective, you may choose to enjoy a hot air balloon safari at sunrise, drifting silently over the plains before landing for a bush breakfast. You can also take part in a guided walk with a Maasai warrior, learning about the traditions, culture and natural environment of the area. Governors Mara Camp also offers a children’s programme, making it an excellent option for families.
Whether you are watching a herd of elephants move across the plains, spotting a big cat on the hunt or simply taking in the vast landscapes, the Masai Mara offers a truly unforgettable safari experience that captures the essence of Africa.
After breakfast, and a final morning activity if time allows, you will be transferred to Musiara Airstrip, a short drive of approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Here you will board your scheduled charter flight back to Nairobi, which takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour.
On arrival in Nairobi, you will connect with your onward travel arrangements. This marks the end of your 7-day Kenya safari, leaving you with unforgettable memories of your time in the Mugie Conservancy and the Masai Mara.
