Dinner & Overnight: Choose between two accommodation options
The Bishop’s House
A charming 9-room boutique lodge that blends old-world elegance with warm Rwandan hospitality. The property features beautifully designed rooms with four-poster beds, rich hardwood finishes and tranquil garden surroundings. Located just 25 minutes from the park headquarters, it offers a comfortable and intimate base for your gorilla trekking adventure.
Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge
Situated at the base of the Virunga Volcanoes, this luxurious eco-lodge offers breathtaking views and a peaceful mountain setting. Guests can enjoy cosy stone cottages, warm fireplaces and exceptional service while surrounded by the natural beauty of the region.
Today is the highlight of your journey—an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience in the misty forests of Volcanoes National Park. After an early breakfast, you will transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing by experienced guides and rangers who will explain the trekking procedures, safety guidelines and conservation efforts in the area. Small groups are then assigned to specific habituated gorilla families before setting out into the forest. The trek can take anywhere from 1 to 4 hours depending on the location of the gorillas and the terrain, which may include forest paths, bamboo thickets and gentle mountain slopes. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend up to one incredible hour observing them in their natural habitat—watching them feed, groom, play and interact with one another just a few metres away. With fewer than 1,100 mountain gorillas remaining in the wild, this rare encounter is both humbling and deeply moving. Rwanda’s gorilla permits directly support conservation programs, anti-poaching efforts, veterinary care and local community initiatives that help protect these remarkable animals.
After your trek and a well-deserved lunch, enjoy a scenic drive of approximately 2.5 hours back to Kigali through Rwanda’s rolling hills and rural countryside. On arrival, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport in time for your onward flight, taking with you unforgettable memories of this extraordinary wildlife encounter.
