10 Day Garden Route Beach & Safari

During this 10 Day Beach and Safari holiday you will experience some of the best areas of the Garden Route namely Knysna and its surrounds, as well as the beautiful Botlierskop Private Game Reserve. It is an ideal holiday for families with young children as the Garden Route is a malaria-free area. Your journey will begin and end in the town of George, African Travel Gateway can assist with flights if needed.

Day 1 – Arrival at George Airport, Brenton Haven Resort

Your journey begins upon arrival at the George Airport.  Once you have collected your luggage you will proceed to the Avis rental office where you will complete the paperwork for your rental car.  Once you have collected your rental car you will drive to Knysna where you will be spending the following 6 nights on a bed-and-breakfast basis at Brenton Haven Resort.  Spend the evening relaxing, and enjoy dinner at the resort or one of the many restaurants in town.

Day 2 – Culinary tour of Knysna

This afternoon you will be collected for a delicious culinary tour of Knysna. There are many different restaurants, bakeries, and distilleries that you can choose from, try some fresh oysters and seafood, delicious pastries and even some locally made gin.  After your tour, you will be dropped back at your resort.

Day 3 – Free day in Knysna

Today is yours to explore and enjoy all the activities Knysna has to offer.  Take a stroll through the town centre full of quaint shops or take a stroll on the beaches and through the lagoons.

Day 4 – Tsitsikamma Tour, Knysna

This morning you will be collected from your resort and taken on a full day excursion through the Tsitsikamma forests.  During this tour, you will visit the Big Trees of Tsitsikamma, walk on the suspension bridge over Storms River, and take a boat ride up the river (this is optional).  Lunch is for your own account and will be at one of the nearby restaurants.  After lunch, you will visit the Bloukrans Bridge before a stroll through the forests and beaches.  You will be dropped back at your resort in time for dinner.

Day 5 – Oudtshoorn Tour, Oudtshoorn

This morning you will be taken on a tour of Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo.  A small farming town that is known for its ostriches.  You will visit a working ostrich farm and learn about these interesting flightless birds and travel to a wine and fruit farm where you will have the chance to taste some of their wines or beers (tastings for your account).  After lunch you will be taken to the majestic Cango Caves, where you will have a guided tour of the caves, there is no climbing or crawling through the caves so it is suitable for all ages. After the caves tour you will be transferred back to your resort over the beautiful Outeniqua Pass.

Day 6 – Free day in Knysna

Today is yours at leisure to explore Knysna.  Take a boat trip to the Knysna Heads, have lunch at one of the local restaurants or just enjoy the day strolling on the beach or having a swim in the lagoons.

Day 7 – Brenton Haven Resort to The Village Lodge, Botlierskop Private Game Reserve

Today you will drive to the Botlierskop Private Game Reserve, a 4200-hectare malaria-free Big 5 game reserve.  Here you will be spending the next three nights at The Village Lodge on a Full Board basis.

Day 8 & 9 – On safari in the Botlierskop Private Game Reserve

The next two days will be on safari, making the most of the activities that the lodge has to offer.  The Village Lodge offers game drives, guided walking safaris and horseback safaris, they even have a junior rangers programme for the kids.  There is no age restriction on game drives so kids are welcome to go out on a game-viewing adventure.  There is also an onsite spa where you can kick back and relax in the African bush.

Day 10 – Botlierskop Private Game Reserve to George Airport

Today marks the end of your holiday, after breakfast, you will leave Botleirskop behind and head back to George Airport.  Please ensure you leave enough time to hand back the rental car as well as check-in for your flight.
