Day 1 - Arrival at Lusaka Airport, transfer to South Luangwa National Park, Nkwali Camp

Today your walking safari begins.  Upon arrival at Lusaka Airport, you will catch your flight to Mfuwe Airport on the outskirts of the South Luangwa National Park.  You will then be transferred to Nkwali camp for the night.

Nkwali Camp is situated on the banks of the Luangwa River, each chalet and the main area overlook the river, so you don’t even have to leave camp to see some incredible wildlife sightings.  Each chalet is furnished with all the amenities that you will need for your night’s stay.

Days 2 to 6 - Walking Safari through the South Luangwa National Park, Mobile camping

Today is the start of your African Safari on foot.  This morning you will drive to your first mobile camping location. Camp will already be set up and you will have time to familiarize yourself with the camp.  Accommodation is in Meru Tents furnished with two twin beds, side tables, lamps for the evenings and a sitting area just outside your tent. There is a bucket shower and a pit latrine toilet. The main area will hold your dining table and more seating for relaxing at, your guides and chefs will be on hand to assist with anything that you may need.

After you have settled into camp, enjoy some lunch and refreshments before heading out on a late afternoon walking safari.  Return to camp for dinner around the campfire.

The typical day will be an early morning game walk followed by a delicious brunch back at your mobile camp.  In the heat of the day, generally between 12 pm and 3 pm, you will be able to relax in camp.

At around 4 pm each day you will head out on a walking safari with your professional guide exploring the areas surrounding the mobile camp.  On day 5 your mobile camp will be moved; you will leave camp early in the morning and travel on foot to your next mobile camping location. The next mobile camp will be the same as the first, as your first camp will essentially be packed up and moved to the next location.

Day 7 - Transfer to the southern part of South Luangwa, Tena Tena or Nsefu Camp

This morning after a delicious breakfast and one last walking safari in the area you will be transferred by safari vehicle to either Tena Tena Camp or Nsefu Camp.  Both camps are located in the south of the park and overlook the beautiful Luangwa River.  You will arrive at the lodge in time to freshen up before afternoon tea and a late afternoon game drive.  This evening enjoy your last dinner in the South Luangwa National Park.

Day 8 - Transfer to Livingstone then to Victoria Falls, Ilala Lodge

This morning is an early start as you are transferred back to Mfuwe Airport in time for your flight to Livingstone, this flight will transit you through Lusaka.  You will arrive in Livingstone and be transferred across the border into Zimbabwe where you will spend the next few nights at the stunning Ilala Lodge.

After a long day of travel relax and unwind at the lodge and enjoy dinner at the on-site restaurant. Ilala Lodge is located in Victoria Falls Town and is within walking distance of local shops and restaurants.  Each room is tastefully decorated with views over the gorgeous green gardens.

Day 9 - Tour of the Falls, Victoria Falls

This morning after breakfast, you will be taken on your guided tour of Victoria Falls. We will first go past one of the biggest baobab trees in the region. These gigantic and ancient trees are characteristic of the African bush.  From here we will take a 3-kilometer walking tour around the falls taking in several different viewpoints including the Devil’s Cataract, Danger Point and others. You will get wet at some of the viewpoints due to the spray, so remember to advise you to cover your cell phones and camera equipment.

After your tour of the falls, you will be taken for a two-course lunch at the famous Lookout Café.  The Lookout Café overlooks the Zambezi River Gorge with a beautiful view of the bridge and Victoria Falls in the background.  After lunch, you will be transferred back to Ilala Lodge where you can relax for the afternoon.  At around 3 o’clock in the afternoon you will be collected again and transferred to the jetty for a sunset boat cruise on the Zambezi River above the falls, complete with drinks and snacks. This excursion also affords the possibility to see not just a typically beautiful sunset, but also some wildlife including hippos, elephants, crocodiles, buffalo and bushbuck.

Day 10 - Transfer to Victoria Falls Airport for departure

As all good things do, your time in Zambia and Zimbabwe draws to a close.  You will be transferred to Victoria Falls Airport in time for your flight to Johannesburg.
