On arrival at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, you will board your early flight to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe Here you will be met and transferred to the Victoria Falls River Lodge, where you will spend the next (2) nights of your 7-day safari on a fully inclusive basis.
Victoria Falls, located on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia, with the majority of the waterfall falling within the Zimbabwean borders. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Victoria Falls is a major tourist attraction in Southern Africa. While the falls are the main attraction, Victoria Falls town is just as exciting, with vibrant restaurants, adrenalin activities, conservation activities and safari experiences.
This morning you will enjoy breakfast, before heading into town for a guided tour of the Victoria Falls. This is an experience that should not be missed out on, enter the rainforest and stroll along the pathways spotting some wildlife such as bushbuck and birdlife before turning the corner to witness a sight that can only be described as magical – Mosi Oa Tunya, The Smoke that Thunders. The first viewpoint gives you a side on view of the falls before you venture further into the rainforest and to the next viewpoints, each providing a unique view and experience of the falls. Your guide will explain the landscape and flow of the water as you go providing you with information you would never expect to know about the area. Be sure to take a waterproof cover for your camera as you will most likely get wet from the spray off the falls.
You will return to the lodge in time for lunch and a restful afternoon before heading out on either a sunset cruise along the Zambezi River, or a game drive within the National Park. Both activities give you the opportunity to spot incredible wildlife and take in the beautiful scenery. Return to camp in time for dinner listening to the sounds of the Zambezi River slipping past you.
After your breakfast, you will be transferred to Victoria Falls Airport, where you will board your light aircraft transfer to the Manga Airstrip in the Hwange National Park. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the Somalisa Camp to spend the next (4) nights on a fully inclusive basis, which also includes twice daily guided safaris (game drives or walks) in this national park, one of the region’s premier game viewing destinations.
Today is spent on safari in the Hwange National Park. Established in the 1930’s this game reserve quickly developed into one of Zimbabwe’s wildlife jewels and is home to some of the largest herds of elephants in the region. The habitat at Hwange is diverse and varied and an abundance of wildlife roam the plains, vleis and Mopane forests including lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, wild dog and a range of other species like sable antelope, giraffe and more.
Your day’s on safari in the Hwange National Park will begin with early morning tea or coffee and rusks before hopping in your game vehicle with one the top guides to head out on safari. Early mornings and late afternoons is when the wildlife is most active, therefore sightings during these times are very likely. During the heat of the day, relax in camp enjoying the animals that pass right by the main areas, this includes elephants drinking right in from of the lodge from Somalisa’s elephant pool. Later in the afternoon it’s time to head out on a safari again, this time seeing animals waking to hunt after the heat of the day, a good time to spot lions and other predators. Evenings are then spent around the boma, enjoying dinner and listening to the crackling campfire and the sounds of the African wilderness.
This morning after your breakfast, you will board your early charter flight back to Victoria Falls Airport, where you will connect with your outbound flight back to the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. Alternatively, you can board your outbound flight back home from Zimbabwe.
