Departure
Today you will arrive off your early morning flight at Libreville International Airport, or you will be collected from your hotel and driven to Libreville International Airport where you will meet up with the rest of the group to begin your 8-Day Loango Wilderness Walking Safari. Your journey will begin with a charter flight to the small village of Gamba, here you will board motorboats and travel through the estuary to Sette Cama Camp where you will be spending the first 2 nights of your safari. You will arrive in time for lunch followed by an orientation and an afternoon kayak safari where you will have the chance to spot some stunning birdlife and if you are lucky some primates!
Sette Cama Camp is located on the banks of the Ndogo Estuary, comprising of comfortable chalets equipped with air conditioning and electricity making your stay welcoming and relaxing. Meals are in the main lounge area overlooking the estuary, there is also a jetty where you can enjoy some early morning coffee or an evening sundowner.
After breakfast, you’ll set out by kayak once more, gliding through the estuary in search of vibrant birdlife and secretive primates. Returning to camp for lunch—and perhaps a well-earned siesta—you can recharge before the afternoon’s adventure. Later, choose between a game drive or a short guided walk, each offering a fresh perspective of the landscape. You’ll arrive back at camp in time for dinner and final preparations for tomorrow’s Wilderness Trail.
Your day will begin with breakfast followed by a briefing on what will take place during your wilderness walking safari. After your safari briefing, you will be transferred by boat to the starting point of your 4 night wilderness trail. From this point on you will be on foot exploring the beauty of the Loango National Park.
Gabon, also referred to as “Africa’s last Eden” is home to the The Loango National Park - a pristine wilderness area where dense rainforests, savannas, lagoons, and wild Atlantic beaches collide in one extraordinary ecosystem.
Each day will begin with a slow morning as you have breakfast and pack up camp. You will then put on your backpacks and hit the trails for the day. Each day you will walk around 10km taking in slow and embracing all the incredible wildlife sighting you will see along the way. Some days you will stop walking around lunchtime and set up camp, before exploring around camp on foot, other days you will stop along the way for lunch before continuing and setting up camp in the late afternoon. Each evening will be spent around a small campfire before retreating to your tents for a restful night in the wilderness.
Loango National Park in Gabon is one of Central Africa’s last truly wild frontiers, a pristine blend of rainforest, coastal savanna, mangroves, and beaches where explorers can encounter unhabituated central chimpanzees, western lowland gorillas, red river hogs, forest sitatunga, duikers, and diverse monkey species. The region is famed for extraordinary wildlife sightings—forest elephants and buffalo crossing open beaches and hippos venturing into the surf—while its rich birdlife includes vermiculated fishing owls, chocolate-backed kingfishers, and white-crested tiger herons. At dusk, thousands of African grey parrots return to roost, filling the forest with an unforgettable chorus.
This morning we will wake on the beach in hopes of spotting the hippos entering the surf, a spectacular and unique wildlife sighting if we are lucky enough to spot them. From here it’s time to break up camp one last time and trek to the pick up point where you will be transferred by boat back to Sette Cama Camp for a relaxing afternoon to unwind and reflect on the previous days.
As your unforgettable adventure draws to a close, you’ll step aboard the boat one final time for a scenic transfer back to the Loango airstrip, savoring the last glimpses of Gabon’s pristine wilderness. From here, board your charter flight to Libreville International Airport, arriving around 15:00—perfect timing for a smooth and stress-free connection to your evening international departure. This final journey offers a moment to reflect on the incredible wildlife encounters, untouched landscapes, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences that make a safari in Loango National Park truly extraordinary.
