Hotels & Lodges - Botswana
Although Botswana has many good hotels, tourists that visit Botswana tend to do so for the rich safari experiences that it offers. The type of accommodation on offer in Botswana’s safari areas like the Okavango Delta, Chobe, Linyanti, Savute and the Tuli Block include mainly tented safari camps, as well as many game lodges. In some of the small centres involved in tourism, such as Maun and Kasane, guest houses are also popular. However in general, safari camps (specifically luxury tented camps) are the most popular form of accommodation in Botswana. Game lodges are the second most popular and then hotels in the traditional sense of the word are confined to the bigger business centres like Gaberone and Francistown.
We have divided Botswanas’ Hotels & Lodges into 5 tourist regions, and under each region we list the various hotels, lodges and safari camps. Most options are safari camp and game lodges.
The Kalahari Area
The Kalahari is the largest sand basin in the entire world, stretching a whopping 2,500km from northern South Africa, through Namibia, Angola and Botswana. Although it has no permanent surface water is it by no means a complete desert - in fact, the Kalahari is well vegetated with a wide variety of habitats, including acacia trees and vast areas of flat grasslands. When the summer rain arrives the plains burst with sweet grasses and become one of the prime game-viewing areas in Botswana. In this region accommodation options include safari camps and safari lodges.

Those who enjoy bird-watching will also not be disappointed. The most popular area within the block has proven to be the North-East Tuli Game Reserve situated between the Limpopo, Motlouse and Shashe rivers. Accommodation options in the Tuli Block are limited to game reserve camps.

The Linyanti & Savuti Areas
The Linyanti - Savuti region comprises a 5000 square kilometre area south west of Chobe. During the dry and inhospitable winter months the pans and water holes in this area lure animals from far and wide; while in summer most animals move on to the fertile Savuti Marsh. The region is well known due to a number of wildlife documentaries that have been filmed here, most notably the National Geographic films by Dereck and Beverly Joubert. In this region your accommodation options include a selection of luxury camps and lodges.
