The safari itinerary makes use of all 5 Norman Carr Safari Camps and promises to get you under the skin of the Zambian wilderness. There is a strong emphasis on walking safaris on this package, and although the camps are very comfortable with all your creature comforts, the Norman Carr properties are not ostentatious, but instead form part of delivering a truely rich safari experience. On a walking safari you learn to appreciate all the aspects of the bush , including tracks, smells, sounds, birds, insects and more. The safari guide will harness these factors into one truely enlightening experience for the trailists.

Days 1 and 2 - Kapani Lodge

On your arrival in Zambia at Lusaka Airport you will be met by a representative from Norman Carr Safaris who will assist you to your domestic flight bound for Mfuwe. This flight lasts about 60 minutes.

Kapani Lodge, Zambia

Your safari tour guide will meet you at Mfuwe Airport and drive you to Kapani Lodge in time to settle in before brunch. This afternoon you have at your leisure, until your first afternoon game drive safari that departs at about 16h00. The game drive is interrupted only by a tranquil stop for sundowner drinks, where you have the opportunity to enjoy your first African sunset. From sundowners the game drive becomes a night drive as your guide searches with the help of a spot light, the many nocturnal animals that occur in the South Luangwa. These could include lion, leopard, porcupine, bush babies, civets and more .. Dinner is finally taken at Kapani Lodge.

Days 3 and 4 - Luwi Bush Camp

After your first two nights at Kapani Lodge you are transferred by means of a game drive into the South Luangwa National Park to Luwi Bush Camp. Luwi Bushcamp is a more laid back safari camp experience and is shaded by a grove of trees near to a lagoon that has always got water in it. The rooms at Luwi have grass walls and thatched roofs with bathrooms that are open to the trees and stars above.

Luwi Bush Camp, South Luangwa

On this first afternoon you will meet your armed escort who will be assisting the guide in your safaris from Luwi Bushcamp. On your afternoon and morning walking safaris your guide and armed escort will interpret the bush for you, by highlighting tracks, sounds, dung, trees, insects and much more. And so doing will heighten your senses and appreciation of walking through the African bush. On your dawn walking safari your guide will take the time to explain the night sounds you will have heard, and where possible the morning walk focuses around the sounds & tracks of the night before. This could include for example tracking a pride a lion that may have been roaring in the early hours of the morning.

Days 5 and 6 - Nsolo Bush Camp

On the morning of day 5 your early morning walking safari takes you along the Luwi River to the next bushcamp on your safari, Nsolo Bush Camp. The walk to Nsolo will take the full duration of your morning safari.

On walking into Nsolo Bushcamp you will be welcomed by the staff, a full breakfast and your luggage will be ready and waiting in your room. The rooms at Nsolo Bushcamp are built on a deck with reeded walls and a thatched roof, and like Luwi Bushcmp your bathroom has an open feel to it maximising your bush experience even while taking a shower!

Morning and after walking safaris will be conducted as before, but you will now work the Nsolo area on your search for big game, trees, birds and the like.

Days 7 and 8 - Kakuli Bush Camp

On the morning of day 7 your morning safari takes out of Nsolo Bushcamp and all the way down the Luwi River to where it meets with the greater Luangwa River, which is where Kakuli Camp is located.

Kakuli Tented Camp, Zambia

Kakuli Camp has rewarding views over the Luangwa River, home to untold numbers of hippo and crocodiles. The dense riverine vegetation home to, among many species, a healthy leopard population.
Although at Kakuli Camp game viewing on foot is still the emphasis, at Kakuli you may go on night drives as well as the chance of spotting leopard is that much better.

Days 9 and 10 - Mchenja Camp

The morning of day 9 takes you to Mchenja Camp, the most luxurious of the bushcamps. Nestled in a grove of Ebony Trees, this tented camp boasts tents with a bath included in the bathroom as well as an outside shower and toilet. At the main chitenje houses there is a small pool adjacent to the bar and sitting area. Meals are usually taken on the river bank.
