Day 1 – Arrive in Arusha, Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge

Today you will arrive off your international flight at the Kilimanjaro International Airport, from here you will be transferred into the city of Arusha where you will spend 1 night at the Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge on a bed and breakfast basis. Arusha Coffee Lodge is set on a working coffee plantation, the perfect place to rest before your safari begins.

Day 2 – Depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge

After your breakfast and tour briefing, your journey into the Ngorongoro and Serengeti begins. Today your drive will take you to the escarpment overlooking Lake Manyara where you will have a chance to walk around and take in the views, and then we head to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is home to the Ngorongoro Crater, which we visit tomorrow, an ancient volcano that is not a fertile land home to large numbers of wildlife including the black rhino.

In the early afternoon, we will arrive at Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge where we will spend one night. The lodge is set overlooking the Ngorongoro Crater and the rooms have all the luxury amenities you will need during your stay. This afternoon you have the option to join a Masai Guide on an informative walk around the crater rim, during this walk you will learn about the Ngorongoro Crater, do some game viewing along the way as well as spot some incredible birdlife and soak in the views out over the crater.

Day 3 – Depart for the Serengeti, Serengeti Wilderness Camp

We depart early this morning to descend down into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full morning’s game viewing.  The crater is home to up to 30,000 animals - wildebeest and zebra, buffalo, elephant, hippo, hyena, jackal, lion, a variety of antelope and incredible birdlife all call this beautiful ecosystem home.

We will enjoy a picnic lunch before heading off into the Serengeti National Park. Our drive into camp will turn into a game drive as we head through some of the open plains of the Serengeti, arriving in the late afternoon at Serengeti Wilderness Camp, a tented camp set in the heart of the Serengeti. With only 10 tents this camp provides an intimate safari experience of the Serengeti.  Enjoy a delicious dinner around the campfire.

Day 4 – On safari in the Serengeti National Park

A typical day on safari will begin with early morning tea and coffee before you head out on your morning guided walking safari where you will have the chance to do some game viewing and a chance to spot some or all of the Big 5.  The Serengeti is home to some of the largest herds of wildebeest and zebra in Africa and if your trip coincides with the great migration this is truly a magical phenomenon to witness.

A delicious brunch is served on arrival back from your morning walk and then the afternoon is yours to relax in camp, retreat to the library in the main area, game watch from your private veranda or have an afternoon siesta.
Afternoon tea is then served before you head out on your afternoon safari; you will stop along the way for some sundowners as you watch the sun slip beneath the horizon before heading back to camp for another tasty dinner around the boma.

Day 5 & 6 – On walking safari in the Serengeti National Park, Mobile Camping

Today your walking safari in the Serengeti National Park begins. You will enjoy an early breakfast before meeting setting out of foot to your first mobile camping location. You will be accompanied by your tour guide and an armed National Parks guide, between them you will be guided through some of the best landscapes, and they will tell you all about tracking animals, how to behave around wild animals and tell you all bout the surrounding flora and fauna. Your morning walks will take place in the early mornings when the wildlife is most active and will be around 3 to 4 hours long.

You will arrive at your first mobile camping location in the mid-morning. The support car will go ahead of you with all your luggage and have the camp set up by the time you walk into camp. The mobile camp consists of dome tents with comfortable mattresses and bedding, the facilities include pit latrine toilets and bucket showers with hot water, basic but functional and comfortable. There is a main tent with a lounge area to rest in during the heat of the day.

Once you arrive in camp you will enjoy a delicious brunch cooked over the open fire before relaxing for the afternoon, the camp is not fenced so while you are relaxing in the camp it is very possible that you will have wildlife walking through camp. In the late afternoon you will head out on a shorter walk around camp, stop for some sundowners along the way and then return to camp in time for dinner around the campfire. Walking safaris provide a unique game viewing experience, being able to see animals up close from ground level is exhilarating and tranquil all in one.

Day 7 – On safari in the Serengeti National Park

This morning you will enjoy a light breakfast before heading out on your final walking safari, after a few hours you will meet up with the game vehicle and be transferred back to Serengeti Wilderness Camp in time for a delicious lunch. The afternoon is yours to rest in camp, or you can head out on late afternoon sunset game drive, your last one in the Serengeti.

Day 8 – Depart for Arusha

As all good things do, your time in the Serengeti draws to a close. After breakfast and a morning activity (if time allows), you will begin your transfer back to Arusha, where you will either overnight or be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.
